Escambia County

History

Escambia County was formed in 1868 from parts of Baldwin and Conecuh counties. Located in the southern part of the state, Escambia is in the Southeastern Plains Region. It is bordered by the Alabama counties of Monroe, Conecuh, Covington, and Baldwin, and the Florida counties of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa. The county seat was originally located at Pollard, and in 1880 it was transferred to Brewton. Other towns and communities include Atmore and Flomaton. Brewton is on US-129 about 120 miles SSW of Montgomery and 80 miles northeast of Mobile
