Lowndes County
History
Lowndes County was
formed in 1830 from Butler, Dallas and Montgomery counties. In the south central
part of the state, it lies in the Southeastern Plains Region. Lowndes is
bordered by Autauga, Montgomery,
Crenshaw, Butler,
Wilcox and Dallas counties.
Its county seat is at Hayneville. Other towns worth noting are Fort Deposit and
Sandy Ridge. Hayneville is 20 miles southwest of Montgomery.
