Cleburne County

History

Cleburne County is located in northeastern Alabama in the Piedmont Region. It was formed in 1866 from Calhoun, Randolph and Talladega Counties. The county seat was established at Edwardsville in 1867 and moved to Heflin in 1906. A large area in the western portion of the county is part of the Talladega National Forest. Cleburne is bordered by the Alabama counties of Randolph, Clay, Talladega, Calhoun and Cherokee, and the Georgia counties of Polk and Haralson. Heflin is on I-20 about 70 miles east of Birmingham and 15 miles west of the Georgia border.
