Fayette County

History

Fayette County was created in 1824 from portions of Tuscaloosa and Marion counties. It is located in the northwest-central section of the state and split between the Southeastern Plains (on the west side) and Appalachian Mountain Regions. Fayette is bordered by the counties of Marion, Walker, Tuscaloosa, Pickens and Lamar counties. The county seat, Fayette, is on US-43 about 70 miles west of Birmingham.
