Tallapoosa County
History
Tallapoosa County
was created in 1832 from land acquired from the Creek Cession and later gave up
some land to Lee and Elmore counties. It is located in the east-central part in
the Piedmont Region. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park and Lake Martin are
located in Tallapoosa County. Tallapoosa is bordered by Clay,
Randolph,
Chambers, Lee,
Macon, Elmore, and
Coosa counties. The county seat is Dadeville.
Other towns and communities include Alexander City and Camp Hill. Dadeville is
on US-280 about 50 miles northeast of Montgomery, 80 miles southeast of
Birmingham, and 60 miles northwest of Columbus, GA.
