Pima County

History
In the south desert region of Arizona,
Pima County was established in 1864 by the first
territorial legislature. At its creation, Pima County was the second largest of
Arizona's four original counties and included all land south of the Gila River
and east of Yuma to the Arizona borders with New Mexico. Over time, Maricopa,
Pinal, Cochise, Santa Cruz and Graham counties were carved out. Its county seat,
Tucson, is Arizona's second largest city and is about 100 miles southeast of
Phoenix. Pima is bordered by the Arizona counties of
Maricopa, Pinal, Cochise, Santa Cruz and Yuma, and the Mexican State of Sonora.
