In the southeast desert region of Arizona, Santa Cruz County was formed in 1899 from Pima County. Its county seat, Nogales, is the southern terminus of I-19, about 175 miles southeast of Phoenix. Santa Cruz is bordered by the Arizona counties of Cochise and Pima, plus the Mexican state of Sonora.
