quiet recess on the brink of Hasklestone's Cliff, in the parish of St.John, is a

Memorial to
Elizabeth Culpeper at "Tomb Field", Easy Hall Plantation, Barbados.
Elizabeth Pollard Culpeper was the wife of Abel Alleyne
Culpeper. Her memorial marble tablet can be found in a burial plot
surrounded by walls, some of which have collapsed, located in "Tomb
Field", Easy Hall Plantation, Barbados. The plot is divided into two
parts; the northerly portion contains what is left of the Culpeper
Vault, with the Tablet lying on top covered with vegetation. The
southerly portion contains an intact vault with the initials JBM
inscribed above the bricked-in entrance. JBM is believed to refer to
James Benjamin Mayers and the vault is said to contain eight
lead-lined coffins belonging to members of the James Benjamin Mayers
family. A PDF of photographs taken on 26 Apr 2008 and a
transcription have been provided to Culpepper Connections by
Don Mayers (Memorial
Plaque to Elizabeth Pollard Culpeper - PDF) |
