Riverside County
History
In California's
Mojave Desert at the eastern end of the greater Los Angels area, Riverside County was created in 1893 from
San Diego and San Bernardino Counties. Its county seat,
Riverside, is on CA-60, about 50 miles east of Los Angeles.
Riverside
County is bordered by the California counties of Orange,
San Bernardino and San
Diego and
the
Arizona county of La Paz.
Riverside County is home to a large number of African-American Culpeppers who
descend from Luke Culpepper (#42024) of Wilcox Co., AL. Luke was born into
slavery, and his son John Bradley Culpepper migrated to Riverside around the
turn of the 20th century.
