Bordering south
Alabama in the Panhandle Region of Florida,
Holmes County was formed in 1848 from
Jackson and Walton counties. Its county seat,
Bonifay, is on
I-10 about 40 miles SSW of Dothan, AL and 80 miles west of Tallahassee. Holmes is bordered by the
Florida counties of
Jackson,
Washington and Walton,
and the Alabama county of Geneva.
