History

At the southeastern corner of the state in the Lower Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Camden County was formed in 1777 as an original county.  It was previously organized in 1765 as the Parishes of St. Thomas and St. Mary from lands of the Creek cessions of 1763 and 1785. Its county seat, Woodbine, is on I-95 about 300 miles southeast of Atlanta and 50 miles north of Jacksonville, FL. Camden is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Georgia counties of Glynn, Brantley and Charlton, and the Florida county of Nassau.
