History

In the Piedmont Region of Georgia, Greene County was formed in 1786 from Washington County. Its county seat, Greensboro, is on I-20 about 85 miles east of Atlanta and 75 miles west of Augusta. Greene is bordered by the counties of Oconee, Oglethorpe, Taliaferro, Hancock, Putnam and Morgan.
