History

In the Lower Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Lanier County was formed in 1920 from Berrien, Clinch and Lowndes Counties. Its county seat, Lakeland, is on US-129 about 210 miles SSE of Atlanta and 100 miles ENE of Tallahassee, FL. Lanier is bordered by the counties of Berrien, Atkinson, Clinch, Echols and Lowndes.
