History

In the Lower Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Pierce County was formed in 1857 from Appling and Ware counties. Its county seat, Blackshear, is on US-84 about 240 miles southeast of Atlanta, 90 miles southwest of Savannah and 85 miles northwest of Jacksonville, FL. Pierce is bordered by the counties of Appling, Wayne, Brantley, Ware and Bacon.
