History
In the Upper
Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Washington County was formed as
an original county in 1774 from the Creek Cession of 1773. Its county seat,
Sandersville, is about
125 miles southeast of Atlanta and 65 miles ENE of Macon. Washington is bordered by the counties of
Hancock, Warren,
Glascock, Jefferson,
Johnson, Wilkinson and
Baldwin.
