History

In easternmost Iowa on the Mississippi River, Clinton County was formed in 1840 as an original county. Its county seat, Clinton, is on US-30, about 180 miles east of Des Moines and 150 miles west of Chicago. Clinton County is bordered by the Iowa counties of Jackson, Jones, Cedar and Scott, as well as by the Illinois counties of Carroll and Whiteside.
