La Porte County
History
In northwestern Indiana,
La Porte County was formed in 1832 from St. Joseph
County and unorganized land. Its county seat, La Porte, is off I-80, about 50 miles
east of
Chicago. La Porte County is bordered by the Indiana counties of
St. Joseph, Starke and Porter, by the Michigan county of Berrien, and by Lake
Michigan.
