History

In the Jackson Purchase Region at the western tip of Kentucky, Ballard County was formed in 1842 from Hickman and McCracken Counties. Its county seat, Wickliffe, is on the Mississippi River and US-51, about 280 miles WSW of Lexington and 200 miles NNE of Memphis. Ballard is bordered by the Kentucky counties of Carlisle, Graves and McCracken, as well as by Pulaski Co., IL and Mississippi Co., MO.
