History

In the Jackson Purchase Region at the western tip of Kentucky, Graves County was formed in 1824 from Hickman County. Its county seat, Mayfield, is on the Purchase Parkway about 260 miles WSW of Lexington. Graves is bordered by the Kentucky counties of Hickman, Carlisle, Ballard, McCracken, Marshall and Calloway, as well as by the Tennessee counties of Weakley and Obion.
