History

In the heart of the Bluegrass Region and near the center of Kentucky, Madison County was formed in 1785 from Lincoln County. Its county seat, Richmond, is on I-75 about 25 miles south of Lexington. Madison is bordered by the counties of Fayette, Clark, Estill, Jackson, Rockcastle, Garrard and Jessamine.
