History

In the Greater New Orleans region, Plaquemines Parish was formed in 1807 as an original parish. Its parish seat, Pointe a la Hache, is on the Mississippi River about 30 miles southeast of New Orleans. Plaquemines is bordered by the parishes of St. Bernard, Orleans and Jefferson, plus the Gulf of Mexico.
