History

In the Crossroads region of central Louisiana, Vernon Parish was formed in 1871 from Sabine, Natchitoches and Rapides Parishes. Its parish seat, Leesville, is on US-171 about 100 miles south of Shreveport and 150 miles WNW of Baton Rouge. Vernon is bordered by the Louisiana parishes of Sabine, Natchitoches, Rapides, Allen and Beauregard, as well as by the Texas county of Newton.
