History

In the Green Country of Northeastern Oklahoma, Muskogee County was formed in 1898 from Creek Nation land. Its county seat, Muscogee, is on US-69 about 125 miles west of Oklahoma City. Muskogee County is bordered by the counties of Wagoner, Cherokee, Sequoyah, Haskell, McIntosh and Okmulgee.

Census Records

Oklahoma was opened to white settlers with the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. The earliest extant census for Oklahoma Territory is for 1900, and Oklahoma Territory became a state in 1907. No Culpeppers have been found in any Muskogee County censuses prior to 1940.
