History

In the Carolina Low Country, Horry District was formed in 1801 from Georgetown District. In 1868, Horry District was designated Horry County. Its county seat, the town of Conway, is on US-701, about 90 miles northeast of Charleston and 110 miles east of Columbia. Horry County is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the South Carolina counties of Georgetown, Marion and Dillon, and the North Carolina counties of Columbus and Brunswick.
