Motley County

County History and Geography

In the Rolling Plains Region of the Texas Panhandle, Motley County was formed in 1876 (organized in 1891) from the Bexar and Young territories. Its county seat, Matador, is on US-62 & 70, about 100 miles SE of Amarillo. Motley is bordered by the counties of Hall, Cottle, Dickens, Floyd and Briscoe.
