Overview

bullet

Major points of agreement

bullet

Both theories say that John Culpepper of Feckenham (born 1565,  married to Ursula Woodcock, and hereafter referred to as "John of 1565") is the progenitor of nearly all American Culpeppers.
bullet

While these two theories don't mention them, the Culpepers of Barbados, Canada and Puerto Rico, and the Colepepers of South Africa, are generally believed to have descended from John's first cousin, the Rev. William Culpeper, who was the son of Edmund Culpeper, Canon of Lincoln and the grandson of William Culpeper of Wigsell, who is also the grandfather of John of 1565.

bullet

The American line is carried on through John of 1565's son, John of Feckenham, born 1606 (hereafter referred to as "John of 1606")

bullet

John of 1565's other son, Thomas Culpeper of the Middle Temple, fathered children who were important in early American history, including Frances Culpeper Berkeley, but this line did not persist.

bullet

John Culpeper of Albemarle, AKA "The Carolina Rebel", is the grandson of John of 1565.
