Cecil Green Culpepper, son of Lewis Walter Green Culpepper and Etta Tilley Culpepper, served in the US Navy during WW-II. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid as a storekeeper and saw action in the Okinawa campaign. After the war he attended the University of Chattanooga (now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga). The first on either side of his family to graduate from high school or college. He was later recalled to the navy in September 1950 and served aboard USS Ault-(DD698) and USS Shenandoah (AD26) during the Korean War. Discharged November 1951 as Storekeeper IIC (SKG2C)

Culpepper and grandson of James Louis Culpepper, was born 7 Dec 1925 in Denhawken, TX and
died 9 May 1956, Refugio, TX. He served in World War II as a merchant seaman and in the
Army. A decade after the war, he was run over and killed by a truck loaded with

Frank Edwin Culpepper of Sylacauga,
Alabama was drafted into the Navy in 1944. He is the son of Carl Mitchell Culpepper and
Arrie Hilyer Culpepper. Ironically Frank had polio as a child & one leg was slightly
shorter than the other. He had attempted to enlist earlier in the Army and the Navy and
was disqualified. Then he was drafted in the Navy as a fireman. He was a boot at the Great
Lakes Training Facility in Illinois. He served aboard the LST ship the USS Diomedes in the
Pacific. He spent the winter of 1945 iced in on the Yangtze River in China, before being

James John Culpepper, Sr. (#44146)
was a
SEA BEE in the Navy, station in the South Pacific,
and his son, James John Culpepper,
Jr (#44149), both of Augusta, GA
served in the USA Navy during WW-II. James Jr. also served in WW-I.
James III says that
when my grandfather and my father were getting ready to leave
Augusta, the Sailor in charge realized they were father and son. He
told my Dad to carry all of his own belongings along with that of
his father. It was one of those stories my father was proud to tell.
My father's ship was the LST 133 and he was aboard when it hit a
mine. He went through D-day and this happen shortly after, We have
snap shots of this damaged ship in our family photos. He was a Navy
gunner mate with two shoot downs.

James Miles
Culpepper, son of Annie Lee Sherrer and John Clark Culpepper, was
born in 1918. Called to active duty in 1941 as a Second Lieutenant in
the US Army, he served in the 307th Infantry in Guam, Leyte, the
Philippines, Okinawa, and the occupation of Japan, and was awarded the
Bronze Star for meritorious service. After 5 1/2 years service, he
returned to reserve duty with the rank of Major. As of May 2005, he

a troop transport in the North Atlantic, a destroyer escort in theNorth Pacific and
a destroyer supporting action off Okinawa. (He lied about his age to get into the Navy.
His mother signed a statement that he was 17 when, if fact he was only 15.) He enlisted in

Joseph Paul Culpepper,
son of William Henry Culpepper. Due to a call up of Guard units by FDR, he was placed on
active duty (voluntarily) in November, 1940 with the 36th Division (Texas), 141st
Infantry, Company "F". He was transferred in early 1943 to a Coast Artillery
Company at Fort Rosecrans in California. In 1945, he was transferred to a Combat Engineer
