Biography* From Judy (Mrs. Lawson E.) Jolly:
     Robert A. Culpepper was the last child born to Dr. AHS and Jennie Riviere Culpepper. Robert was born August 21, 1884, per a notation in the Bible of Keff Smith Culpepper, his older brother. Their mother died September 12, 1884, and I do not know who cared for Robert. Robert and Louise, his wife, moved to Arkansas by 1909 (both their children, Virginia and
Robert, were born there). In 1920 the family lived in Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co., AR (pg 12B), and in 1930 the family lived in Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR (pg 209B).
     The death certificate [reports] a 9 May 1969 death of Robert Alexander Culpepper, a resident of North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. Burial was 12 May 1969 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock. The place of birth was
Atlanta, Georgia, and the date was 21 Aug 1884. The informant was R.A. Culpepper, III (identity unknown to me at present), and he did not give the names of Robert Alexander Culpepper's parents. However, the date of birth is identical to that recorded in Keff Culpepper's Bible, and the other evidence fully supports that Robert Alexander was the s/o Dr. AHS Culpepper and Jennie Riviere.

     I've looked for references to Bob in my Desha County resources, and found only two. One was in a letter from a former resident of Arkansas City, saying he remember Bob Culpepper as the star pitcher for the local baseball team. The other was in connection with a Dumas, Arkansas, town council meeting when, in 1911, R. A. Culpepper moved passage of Ordinance 16, which "proclaimed all seed houses south of the north line of Jones Street to Choctaw Avenue be condemned as a public nuisance as to health and public welfare."6,7
