| Biography* | | Published on 11/07/90, The Virginian-Pilot. Vernon Merrille Culpepper, 84, of the 3200 block of Old Mill Road, a retired farmer, died Nov. 6, 1990, in a hospital. Mr. Culpepper, a native of Chesapeake, also retired from the Chesapeake Sheriff's Department as a major. He was a charter member of Deep Creek Ruritan Club and the Virginia Sheriffs Association. He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and the Virginia Police Association. He was on the Mosquito Control Commission and the Chesapeake Farm Bureau. He was the widower of Eula M. Culpepper. Survivors include two
daughters, Merile C. Barley and Betty C. Spencer, both of Chesapeake; two brothers, Leroy N. Culpepper of Chesapeake and Beverly B. Culpepper of Suffolk; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Ernest Myers and the Rev. Herman Mauch. Burial will be in Culpepper Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, and other times at 3142 Martin Johnson Road, Chesapeake.
