| Biography* | 4 Nov 2004 | Obituary: VALDOSTA - Ivey S. Culpepper, 86, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born on Dec. 21, 1917, in Echols County, he was the son of the late Jesse E. and Beulah Mae Peterson Culpepper. He farmed with his family in Echols County before going to work at Owens-Illinois Paper Mill where he worked for 28 years. He served his church, Forrest Street Church of God, for many years in many different functions and particularly enjoyed his time directing the choir. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Culpepper is survived by his wife of 22 years, Thelma Z. Culpepper of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, Herman and Carol Culpepper of Montgomery, Ala., Rudolph and Linda Culpepper of Augusta, Ga; Danny and Jo Culpepper of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Tammy and Scott Sherrod of Valdosta, Kevin and Cami Culpepper of Montgomery, Phillip and Amy Culpepper of Vidalia, Tony and Shirley Culpepper of Tampa, Fla; step-grandchildren, Jeff Vernon, Randall and Jackie Vernon, all of Augusta; a brother, Jesse Efford Culpepper of Valdosta; and eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Forrest Street Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
