Biography* Joseph Nathan Pope Sr., 82, of the 3200 block of Old Mill Road,
Chesapeake, died peacefully in his sleep on May 27, 1995, at the
Colonial Home for Adults. Mr. Pope was a native of Capron, Va., and the husband of the late Annie Culpepper Pope. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop 72. He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Joseph N. Pope Jr. and JoAnne P. Armstrong; his sister, Willie P. Whitehurst; his grandchildren, Stephen D. Culpepper Jr., Larry B. Pope, Kimberly C. Dezern, Joseph C. Pope, Timothy T. Pope, and Amanda M. Armstrong; and his great-grandchild, Deanna N. Pope. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Ernie Myers and Dr. Roscoe Musselwhite on Tuesday, May 30, 1995, at 3 p.m. in Deep
Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Culpepper Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. (29 May 1995, The Virginian-Pilot.)
