Born in Old Norfolk County, he was the son of the late Leroy and Sue Culpepper and was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Parker Culpepper. DeDe was a retired testman for C&P Telephone Company with 30 years of service. He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Ann Wright and husband Peter of Norfolk; a son, Jerry Culpepper and wife Debbie of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Bobby Knight, Michael Knight, Lisa Ruley and Amy Culpepper; two great-grandchildren, Timothy Knight and Erin Ruley. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Culpepper Family Cemetery, Old Mill Road, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chaper, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. A recent message from DeDe's heart, "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that I will seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple."
