(This indenture made this 26th day of February in the year of our lord 1834 by and between STEPHEN JOINER of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina of the one part and KINCHEN EDWARDS of the County of EDGECOMBE and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid at and before the signing and sealing of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that I the said Stephen Joiner have bargain and sold until him the said KINCHEN EDWARDS his heirs executors and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the County of Nash and on the NORTH SIDE OF TARRIVER bounded by the lands of DELILA JOINER, the orphan of HARDY JOINER dec. KINCHEN EDWARDS LEVY EDWARDS heirs, WILLIAM CULPEPER and others. said to contain TWO HUNDRED ACRES be the same more of less., it being the land and tenements left to the said STEPHEN JOINER by the will of his father LEWIS JOINER to have and to hold the said lands and tenements free and clear from all incumberances made had or done by me the said STEPHEN JOINER unto him the said KINCHEN EDWARDS his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever and further I the said STEPHEN JOINER do warrant and forever defend the right and title of the above deeded lands and tenements until him the said KINCHEN EDWARDS his heirs and assigns forever in testimony where of I have set my hand and seal this day and date first above written, signed, sealed and delivered in presents of SAMUEL VICK AND R. William Culpepper made his will in Nash Co. on September 22, 1868. It was probated on Dec. 18, 1871: A. son Henry H. Culpepper, 25 acres adjoining where he lives, a work ox, and a bed and furniture: B. Daughter Mariah Elizabeth Rose, bed and furniture, blue painted chest, and $20.00 from John Culpepper; C. daughter Mary Lizer Joyner, bed and furniture, red painted chest, and $20.00 from John Culpepper; D. daughter Frances E. Joyner, cow and calf, table, loom and gear, and $20.00 from John Culpepper; and E. son and executor John J. Culpepper, residue of the estate.
