Biography* Virginia Pekor Culpepper, the daughter-in-law of William Stephen Culpepper, wrote on 26 Sep 2004: "I am quite certain he was born in, or at least grew up in, Alabama. He lived on a farm and worked his way through the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and also through Medical School there. He bought a practice in Missouri before World War One. Was called up around 1913 because of his ROTC commission. His ROTC scholarship had helped with his college expenses. He had been commissioned in the Calvary, but was quickly moved to the Medical Corps. His parent's names were George Andrew Culpepper and Lou Ida Grimes Culpepper. George's parents: William and Maria Walls. Ida's parents: William R Grimes and Elizabeth Ready.
