 He was the son of Charles Frederick Culpepper and Alice Elizabeth Long.

Biography* Mrs. John (Dorothy Culpepper) Wingfield preserved a 25 page typed manuscript "ONE FAMILY - CULPEPPER" written by her grandfather, Rev. George Bright Culpepper, which noted: On October 12, 1932, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Culpepper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Long, the wife's parents, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Dr. J. E. Haslam attended the mother. To this son, one for any parent or grandparent to be proud of, they gave the name Thomas James, for his Uncle Thomas Jackson Culpepper and his grandfather, James L. Long, and great-grandfather, James Marian [Marion] Culpepper. He is almost ten years old and a wonderfully intelligent child. He is in school in Jacksonville. He is a great reader for his age, in this respect following his father's example.

Thomas James Culpepper, 68, Sarasota, died Dec. 23, 1999. He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Fort Valley, Ga., and came to Sarasota five years ago from Birmingham, Ala. He was a retired regulator program specialist with the federal government. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a doctorate in oceanography. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Guadalupe Masonic Lodge No. 109 of Seguin, Texas, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors include his wife, Virginia M; two sons, Frederick Thomas of Sarasota and Robert Matthew of Tampa; and a sister, Dorothy Wingfield of Perry, Ga. Memorial services will be later. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to The Wellness Community, 3900 Clark Road, Building P-3, Sarasota, FL 34233; or to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
