Harry Monell offers the following: Robert enlisted in the Virginia Rangers as a private on Feb 2, 1862 at Camp Pemberton and served in Company A, 7th Battalion, Virginia. The Company transferred on Apr 20, 1862 to Company A, 3rd Virginia Infantry. On Aug 8, 1862, the Company once again transferred as Company A, 61st Virginia Infantry. The 61st VA saw action in 25 different battles.).3
