| Biography* | Obituary: Charles H. Culpepper. Memorial services for Charles H. Culpepper, 76, were held in First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, N.C. on April 26, 2000. Mr. Culpepper died Thursday, April 20, 2000. He was born in Hopkins County, on Aug. 17, 1923, moved to Plainview at an early age and graduated from Plainview High School in 1941. He attended Wayland Baptist College and graduated from the Army Air Force Pilot School in Frederick, Okla., in 1944. He flew 35 combat missions as a pilot/commander of B-24 bombers based in Italy and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross among other decorations. During the Korean War, he served as an intelligence specialist in Europe, which led to a permanent position with the CIA. He later was appointed to a senior position in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he remained until his retirement in 1975. Survivors include his wife, Lorina Culpepper of Hendersonville, N.C; twin sons, David Culpepper of Fredricksburg, Va., and Barry Culpepper of Alexandria, Va; a brother Joe Culpepper, of Plainview; a sister Josie Daniel of Cleburne; and two grandsons, Charles Culpepper and David Culpepper.1 |
