Biography* Culpeper, Mrs. Martha Helen.
With sad regret that we announce the death of Mrs Martha Helen, the beloved wife of Henry E. Culpeper, Sr., which sad event took place yesterday morning at the residence of her husband, on the corner of South and Court Streets. Mrs. Culpeper was well known in Portsmouth for her many acts of charity. She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn their loss. She was the mother of Drs. V. C. and Charles Culpeper, also sister of Mr. Vernon C. Grant, a commission merchant of Norfolk. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the residence of her husband.

(12/18 Next day)
The funeral of Mrs. Martha Helen Culpeper took place yesterday afternoon from the residence of her husband on the corner of South and Court Streets. Rev. Dr. J. D. Blackwell delivered an impressive sermon, after which the remains were borne to Cedar Grove Cemetery. We were unable to get a list of the pallbearers, but we can safely say that for a lady, it one of the largest funerals we have ever seen in Portsmouth.
