| Civil War* | between 1863 and 1865 | He served in the War Between the States between 1863 and 1865 (Merriday H. Culpepper at the age of 17, enlisted at Gainesville, Ga. on June 3, 1863 in Co. C, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry. With consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry on Feb. 13, 1864. He was in Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Va. from November 12 to December 1, 1864. Private Merriday Culpepper was in Georgia on detail to obtain a horse when General Lee surrendered. He was captured on May 8, 1865 at Athens, Ga. and paroled the same day. Merriday H. Culpepper died in Hall County, Ga. and is buried at Timberidge Baptist Church Cemetery there.
