Birth*30 Jan 1831 Daniel was born at Crawford Co., Georgia, on 30 Jan 1831.
He was the son of Joel Culpepper of Crawford Co., GA and Nancy Corley
Civil War*1862 He served in the War Between the States in 1862
(Probably Daniel Culpepper, Pvt. Co. "F" 39th Inf Regt. Ala. (Vol.), who enlisted 5 May 1862 in Chattahoochee Co., GA and died 19 Dec 1862 in Chattanooga, TN from disease. A Mary J. Culpepper filed a claim 16 Feb 1863.).
Death*19 Dec 1862 He died at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., Tennessee, on 19 Dec 1862.
Biography* Daniel's birth was recorded in the Family Bible of his sister, Mrs. I. W. (Sarah A. B. Culpepper) Sims: _______________Daniel Culpepper Born _______________January 30, 1831
Daniel's parents were recorded in the 1830 census of Crawford Co., GA and Daniel is presumed to have been born there. Daniel's widowed mother has not been found in the 1840 census but since his father, Joel Culpepper, appears to have died in Crawford Co., GA in Dec 1839, the family was probably there until that time. Although Daniel's mother and brothers and sisters have been found in the 1850 census, Daniel has not been found in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas or Texas records. He would have been 19 years old. If he had already died, his death was not noted in his sister's Bible where the 1862 death of his brother, John, was noted. It is possible that Daniel was overlooked in his mother's house or was working nearby or visiting relatives when the 1850 census was taken. A 29 year old "Daniel C. Culpepper" born in Georgia was recorded (p. 614, #1400) in the 1860 census of Mobile Co., AL. He was listed as a blacksmith. But it is not known if this was Daniel, son of Joel. This Daniel has not been found in 1870 census records of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas or Texas. Possibly Daniel died during the Civil War but again, the death of his brother, John, was noted in 1862 and Daniel's death was not recorded. B. W. Dunn noted two references to a Daniel Culpepper in Civil War records: Culpepper, Daniel Pvt. Co. "F" 39th Inf Regt. Ala. (Vol.) Culpepper, Daniel C. Pvt. Co. "C" 2nd Bttn. Ala. Lgt. Arty.
Daniel C. Culpepper has been identified as Daniel Clark Culpepper from another family. The Daniel Culpepper that joined Co. "F" enlisted 5 May 1862 as a private in Chattahoochee Co., GA as did a Nathan Culpepper. They both died within the year. Daniel died 19 Dec 1862 in Chattanooga, TN from "disease" and Nathan died from mumps. Neither of these men has been identified. Could this have been Daniel, the son of Joel Culpepper? If so, a Mary J. Culpepper filed a claim 16 Feb 1863.
