| Biography* | | Mrs. James L. (Vivian Hastings) Culpepper wrote 24 Sep 1978 that D. F. Culpepper's second wife was "Mrs. Zilpha Reeder (Holloway) a widow...." The marriage record lists her as Mrs. Zilpha L. Holloway. In the 1900 census, she was listed as having had seven children three of whom were still living. The seventh child was apparently her son, Joseph Holloway, who was listed in the 1880 census. This is believed to be the "J. W. Holloway" who was listed as executor of Daniel F. Culpepper's estate in 1901 and, if this is correct, Zilpha would have had four children living in 1900. Mrs. James L. (Vivian Hastings) Culpepper reported in 24 Sep 1978 letter that there is a tombstone in the Mt. Olive Cemetery for "Maggie Culpepper 1875-1878." Mrs. Travis (Jacqueline Lorenz) McClinton recorded the dates as "1875-1875." It has been suggested that this was a child of Daniel and Zilpha. If so, in the 1900 census, Zilpha was not counting her son by her first marriage and the seven children born of whom three were still living would have been correct. In a 2 Nov 1994 letter Mrs. C. M. (Pat Burgin) Lee wrote: According to Marie [Burgin, a granddaughter of Daniel and Zilpha] there was also a girl, Maggie Culpepper. I'm guessing the 1875-1878 shown in cemetery records is the child. Other members of that family evidently are buried near. |
