Biography* According to p. 99 of The Harbours in America by Louis J. Williams, Vashti is believed to have died before 24 Nov 1856 since she was not mentioned in her father's estate settlement. Mrs. T. D. (Patty Bennett) McGinty speculated in a 25 Jul 1988 letter that she died in childbirth. Culpepper Heritage Association records list a child "Nancy E." born 5 Jul 1857 in Lavaca Co., TX but no source is given. The child was not noted in the 1860 census and no cemetery record has been found for the child. Culpepper Heritage Association records note: "probably died at birth with mother." If Vashti in fact died in childbirth in 1857 then why wasn't she mentioned in her father's estate settlement?
