      Mrs. T. D. (Patty Bennett) McGinty wrote 25 Jul 1988 that Joel died in Lafayette Co., MS probably based on the location of the Francis G. Culpepper family in the 1850 census. C. S. Peterson in Known Military Dead During Mexican War listed a Joel Culpepper, Private, Company E, 14th Infantry, who died 12 Oct 1847. That Joel was a 19 year old who was born in Illinois.
