A 56 year old "Sarah E. Culpepper" born in Georgia was recorded (p. 89, family #6) with her sister, Lula R. Culpepper, in the household of her brother, Joel Culpepper, in the 1910 census of Gordon Co., GA. She never married. The following is from a manuscript by Kathryn English Culpepper, as transcribed by Gayle L. Poole: Sarah Elizabeth was known to everyone as "Miss Sally Bit, " and was never called anything else. She was never married, and was always at the beck and call of any of the family who needed her help. All children adored her, She was always ready to stop what she was doing to help them find something lost, or tell them things they loved to hear. She was quiet - mannered and selfless. "Neat as a Pin". She always lived with Lula and Dr. Gray after her mother died. Her hobby was tatting. She could always make delicious salt-raising bread, even made her own yeast from Irish potato peelings. Never cross, always calm and patient. |
