| Biography* | The following is from a manuscript by Kathryn English Culpepper, as transcribed by Gayle L. Poole: Linea: There was a love! She was lovely to look at, and sparkling with personality. He merry laughter the hearts of all who knew her. She lived a life of service and friendship to both family and friends. Wherever there was sickness she was there to lend a hand. When Malcolm was a little fellow he took cold very easily and once he was very Sick, and bordering on pneumonia, Aunt "Lenny" called Mama on the phone almost every day. When Mama told her how sick Mac was, she came all the way across town by streetcar to administer to Mac. She placed a tar plaster on his chest and gave him a small "toddy" of whiskey which she had asked Daddy to get (I'll never forget that bottle of whiskey!) It was in a very tiny bottle (about 6 inches tall), The only whiskey that was ever in our house! The next day Mac was sitting up on his bed playing with his toys. "Lenny" was married to Adrian Rawlins and had a son named Herbert. She was an active member in the North Rome Methodist Church, which was next door to her home. She was an excellent seamstress, and was always attract fully dressed. |
