Biography* According to Mary Lillian Pierce, 18 Jan 1979, "Hershel Johnson's father was killed in the Civil War. At that time they, Hershel and his parents, lived at LaGrange, GA. They later moved to Boaz, AL where Hershel met his wife." The name was spelled "Hershcelle" on the marriage license but he signed his name H. V. Johnson so it is not known if that was his spelling or the clerk's.
