| Biography* | | Mrs. John (Dorothy Culpepper) Wingfield preserved a 25 page typed manuscript "ONE FAMILY - CULPEPPER" written by her grandfather, Rev. George Bright Culpepper, who noted: SUSAN FITZPATRICK CULPEPPER On July 29, 1846, Susan Fitzpatrick was born to my father and mother in Talbot County, Georgia. when she was 18 years old she ran away from home and married a man named Hannibal Watson. He was a drunkard and a generally undesirable man; and my father objected to him on such grounds. To my sister and her husband were born two sons - Richard Lamar Watson and John Francis Watson. These two were living, a few months ago, near Tampa, Florida. Mr. Watson died in February 1887, and is buried at old Bethel Church, in Taylor County, Georgia. After several years my sister married again - a man named Hamilton Hill. He had been married three times before and he was my sister's second husband. He was also a drinking man. My sister, Susan, lived to be 84 years old. She is buried at River View, near Tampa, Florida. Neither one of her sons ever married; although one, of them it was reported, became the father of a son whose mother's name was Hudson. The other son, owing to a severe case of whooping cough in infancy, became almost totally blind and is so now. These boys were true to each-other, and are yet. This disposes of the history of the first-born of my father and mother - Susan Fitzpatrick. At this time she has been dead about ten years. She was a good woman. She lived and died a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. |
