| Biography* | Mary Lillian Butler Pierce wrote 19 Jun 1993: Billy Dunn's mother is 87 yrs old - fell in March and broke her hip. Stayed several weeks in hosp. and in rehab. for therapy. She is home now... In a 21 Jan 1995 card Mary Lillian noted that Alverene had died of a heart attack: She would have been 89 yrs old in May of this yr. Funeral will be to-morrow Sun. at 2 pm, at Arab... Mary Lillian preserved the following funeral notice from the Huntsville Times: Alverene Dunn ARAB -- Mrs. Alverene Dunn, 88, of 423 Shoal Creek Trail, Arab, died Thursday at her home. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gober Funeral Home in Arab. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Washam of Arab and Annette Dunn of Birmingham; a son, Jerry Dunn of Arab; a sister, Inez Williams of Guntersville; two brothers, Lester Culpepper of Tennessee and Elton Culpepper of Huntsville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary Lillian also preserved the following obituary from an unknown source: Alverene C. Dunn Retired school teacher Alverene C. Dunn, 88, of Arab, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 1995, at her residence. Mrs. Dunn was born May 27, 1906, in Marshall County to Lee and Beatrice Rowe Culpepper. She was married to Ronald T. Dunn, who died Jan.25,1958. She was a 1926 graduate of Arab High School, attended Jacksonville State University for three years, retired as a school teacher from Arab Primary School in 1975, was a member of Arab First Baptist Church and lived in Arab since 1952. She is survived by her son: Jerry Dunn of Arab; two daughters: Rosemary Washam of Arab and Annette Dunn of Birmingham; son-in- law: Wayne Washam of Arab; two daughters-in-law: Marina Dunn and Sally Dunn of Arab; two brothers: Lester Culpepper of Portland, Tenn., and Elton Culpepper of Huntsville; sister: Inez Williams of Guntersville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 1995, at Gober Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Paul Murphy and Ken Tyler officiating. Burial was in Arab Memorial Cemetery, with Gober Funeral Chapel directing. Pallbearers were Tim Dunn, Keith Dunn, Craig Dunn, David Dunn, Alan Washam and Jeff Washam. |
