| Biography* | Vivian was one of the major contributors of information on the descendants of James Louis Culpepper. . From her obituary: "Vivian Hastings Culpepper, age 83, died June 7, 2002 following an extended illlness. Mrs. Culpepper was born January 10, 1919 in Wilson County, TX to Coliet Eugene and Sophie Bode Hastings. Vivian was a life-long resident of South Texas, born and raised in Wilson County, having lived in many small towns during her husband's early career with United Gas Company. She resided 13 years in Karnes City, 31 years in Refugio and her final years in San Antonio. Mrs. Culpepper was a full-time wife and mother, Band Booster, room mother, scouting assistant, cookie baker, ticket seller, and a fan extraordinaire of all Refugio ISD events. She was proud to be a "Bobcat Granny". She believed in being involved in her family's activities and in her community. Vivian passed on to her daughters a love of travel and adventure and a tradition of recording all the events of life through photography. Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Lloyd Culpepper, she is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Carol Barry and Darlene Applewhite, both of San Antonio, and Sue Junker of Spring, TX; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister, Mrs. Marie Howe of San Antonio and many other relatives and friends. .
