| Biography* | According to Mrs. Eleanor Culpepper Willingham, Wilbur was nicknamed "Gill." Wilbur was an accountant with the state highway department. The following is an obituary from an unknown source: W. C. Culpepper Taken by Death GREENVILLE, Ga., Oct. 20.--Wilbur Clay Culpepper, 67, former mayor of Greenville, died at his home here Tuesday. Born and reared in Meriwether County, Mr. Culpepper was connected with the State Highway Department for many years and also was connected with the Greenville Warehouse and Oil Mill. At the time of his death he was chief clerk of the Merwether County War Price and Ration Board. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, the former Carrie Lou Tigner; two sons Lewis Pitts Culpepper, of Manchester and Wilbur Clay Culpepper, Jr., U. S. Navy; five brothers, Nathan F. Culpepper, of Greenville; J. Wesley Culpepper, of Fayetteville; Homer L. Culpepper and Edgar C. Culpepper, of Lone Oak, and T. J. Culpepper, of Grantville; two sisters Mrs. D. O. Phillips and Miss Mary Lou Culpepper, of Greenville. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Wednesday. |
